Because pets are born to thrive

Raw Bistro is a different kind of pet food company. We know how much your furry companions matter to you—we’ve got dogs and cats of our own, and they’re family members that we want with us for as long as possible.

We’re convinced that a balanced, species-appropriate diet from grass-fed beef, free-range poultry and other non-factory-farmed meats is the best one for pets to live their healthiest and happiest lives. So when we set out to make our own raw pet foods, we partnered with expert formulators in raw nutrition and created recipes based on science and research done by leading holistic veterinarians and nutrition specialists. We also took into account standards set by both AAFCO and NRC to create formulas for optimal vitality and logevity.

While raw pet foods are not the norm in this country, we firmly believe they should—and will—be. Many health issues that plague today’s companion animals can be traced to kibble mono-diets, and the differences after switching to a balanced, species-appropriate raw diet are nothing short of remarkable.

We also have a strong commitment to ecologically sound production methods, of local sourcing, supporting family farms and humane treatment of farm animals.

Committed to thriving pets, and a thriving planet

At Raw Bistro, we believe in the power of the raw diet to help pets live their healthiest and happiest lives. We also care deeply about animal welfare, the environment and sustainable farming practices.

That’s why we’re committed to sourcing all our meats, poultry, game, vegetables and other ingredients from family farms who share our values, to processing our foods in a safe, hyper-clean facility, and to working hard to minimize environmental impacts on all fronts.

Small picture, big picture; one doesn’t exist without the other. These ideas are not an afterthought, but an intrinsic part of our reason for being as well as every product we make.

Embracing sustainability

Raw Bistro is based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, about an hour south of Minneapolis/St. Paul. We’re fortunate to be in the heart of a thriving sustainable agriculture area, and we’re committed to sourcing all of our ingredients from local or regional producers who share our values of humane and environmentally sound farming practices.

Locally grown foods are fresher and more nutritious, because they spend less time in shipping and storage facilities. Traveling only short distances means they also have a much smaller carbon footprint. We’re committed to sourcing all our meats, poultry, game, vegetables and other ingredients from family farms and suppliers in the United States who share our values and are doing right by the planet. We do the hard work so that you can provide your pets with food they can enjoy and you can feel confident that they are receiving the best possible nutrition.

Why Grass-Fed?

100% Grass-fed animals are happier, healthier, and better food source.

Much is known about the unhappy lives and physical ailments of factory-farmed animals. In contrast, animals that are allowed to free roam and forage develop and grow at a natural pace, without enduring stress and disease.

We are what we eat, and so are our pets, as well as the farm animals who sustain us. Feedlot animals are fed an unnatural diet of corn, soy and waste products that plagues them with health issues, for which they also receive steady doses of antibiotics. All of these are passed up the food chain to our pets and to us.

And, something most people don’t know, grass-fed animals are actually more nutritious than their confined counterparts. For example, when compared with feedlot meat, the meat from grass-fed beef, bison and lamb has less saturated fat, cholesterol and calories, and more vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids.

In addition to pasturing their livestock, our suppliers never administer hormones or antibiotics, ensuring that these unnecessary chemicals don’t end up in our pets’ bodies.
